Night Watch, Part SevenHer fingers trembled slightly as she turned the cylinders. E-A-R-T-H. A nearly-inaudible click was the only indication that the combination had worked. Pushing up the lid of the trunk, which was far heavier than she had anticipated, a small gasp escaped Selene's lips. Cushioned on a red cloth with golden moons and stars embroidered on it, lay an athame, bolline, wand, crystal ball, muslin bag, pentacle necklace, and an ancient-looking, cloth-bound book. Selene had discovered a literal treasure chest of riches! The book was the first item that immediately drew her attention. She could only pray to the Goddess that it was what she hoped it was.Night Watch, Part Seven


Night Watch, Part SixMurmuring a small apology to the rabbit, wherever it had gone, Selene turned back to her gardening, but the joy had been taken out of it. The sheriff's visit had left a sour taste in her mouth, and she wanted nothing more than to retreat to the safety of her house. She quickly finished her work, put the tools back in the shed, and went back into the house, locking the door tight behind her. Maybe some food would help settle the queasy feeling in her stomach. Preparing a light lunch of a sandwich and some fruit, Selene settled into the sunken couch to enjoy her meal and try to put the events of earlier behind her. As she tried to aNight Watch, Part Six
